Spanish Coast and Montserrat

The next castle we spotted, again on a hilltop, was the Xivert Castle. The ruins sit in what is now the National Park of the Sierra de Irta. It was built around the 10th century as a part of the chain of Moorish forts guarding the passage to Valencia. It was later taken over by the Christians - the Order of the Knights Templar.
